hmmm. Lewis and Short (the Latin dictionary on Perseus) derives senile from the noun senex, and senium from a verb, seneo, which in turn also derives from senex. Senex itself, they tell us, is cognate with the Sanskrit sanas, and the Greek henos, both meaning old.
