or new to me, at any rate, though they may be more familiar to our members from North America.

duotang

a folder made of paper or soft card with two prongs for holding papers

deskew

to use the rotate function of software to correct the alignment of photocopies or scanned images.

I must admit I think I could get rather fond of the word deskew or deskewing.

Duo-tang is a stationary supply manufacturer. One of those Kleenex/Poloroid/Xerox thangs.
It's also the name of a group of Canadian rockers.

I haven't heard either, Bingley. I like deskew a lot and may have to find ways to incorporate it!

Thanks, Connie, for the Duo-tang. ...does it stay still? [duck-and-cover]

So what do you call the folders if you don't call them duotang then? Does the company have a preferred alternative, like sticky-backed plastic for sellotape?

Duotang is a brand name only; I have never heard anyone call a folder a duotang. Maybe a duotang folder, but rarely, in my experience. We just call them folders; maybe a pocket folder, if they have them (pockets, that is). I just looked at an on-line office supply site. They list them as "Combination Folders with Fasteners", and have Duo-tang listed as the manufacturer.

As to deskew--do you know how it's pronounced? I suspect it's something like duh-SKEW; however, I find myself thinking DESK-you, which sounds gratifyingly insulting! This was a new word to me, too; my photo suite just says flip/rotate; in Paint, I have the option to skew.

I came across my sellotape yesterday, as it happens; gave me an ear-to-ear smile, as I remembered purchasing it!

It'd be dee-skew, with a slight emphasis on the second syllable, at least in my dialect. I can imagine it with equal stress on both syllables.

I'm with the Fool on this one - I use the de-skew function often.

Whereas I tend to stay on the straight and narrowly un-skewed ...
