Today a friend noted my use of the phrase I let time get away from me. I meant that time often seems to be galloping away like a spooked horse, leaving me standing with broken reins in the field of my undone tasks. But my friend wondered (jokingly), "What if you take it literally? Are you on the way for time travel?" I thought this was an interesting concept. Do you-all have any comments?

in an Einsteinian (and expanding) universe, it always depends on your frame of reference. that is, time *could get away from you, leaving you standing still as it were. or time could stand still, but then when are you? -ron devious

Thanks, ron. I was having problems imagining what "time getting away from me" could mean, if taken literally.
Or either it's already being taken literally.

Time Has Come Today
The Chambers Brothers
Time has come today Young hearts can go their way Can't put it off another day I don't care what others say They say we don't listen anyway Time has come today (Hey)
Oh The rules have changed today (Hey) I have no place to stay (Hey) I'm thinking about the subway (Hey) My love has flown away (Hey) My tears have come and gone (Hey) Oh my Lord, I have to roam (Hey) I have no home (Hey) I have no home (Hey)
Now the time has come (Time) There's no place to run (Time) I might get burned up by the sun (Time) But I had my fun (Time) I've been loved and put aside (Time) I've been crushed by the tumbling tide (Time) And my soul has been psychedelicized (Time)
(Time) Now the time has come (Time) There are things to realize (Time) Time has come today (Time) Time has come today (Time)
Time [x11]
Oh Now the time has come (Time) There's no place to run (Time) I might get burned up by the sun (Time) But I had my fun (Time) I've been loved and put aside (Time) I've been crushed by tumbling tide (Time) And my soul has been psychedelicized (Time)
(Time) Now the time has come (Time) There are things to realize (Time) Time has come today (Time) Time has come today (Time)

maybe this belongs in the philosophy thread, but thinking about time always makes me think of this song: For All We Know Words & Music by Sam M. Lewis & J. Fred Coots Recorded by Nat King Cole, 1943
A F#m D9 Dm7 E7 For all we know we may never meet again
A F#7 Edim Bm7-5 Fdim E7 Before you go make this mo - ment sweet again
Cdim A Cdim Bm7 E7 We won't say "Good night" until the last minute
A Cdim Bm7 F7 E7? I'll hold out my hand and my heart will be in it
A F#m D9 Dm7 E7 For all we know this may only be a dream
A F#7 Edim Bm7-5 Fdim E7 We come and go like a ripple on a stream
Cdim A G#7 C#7 F#7 So love me tonight; tomorrow was made for some
Bm7 Dm6 E7 Bm7-5 E7 A6 Tomorrow may never come for all we know. my favorite version is by Billie Holiday, on "Lady in Satin" with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. sublime...

Play it again, Sam...Hey! Wait a minute, I never said that!...Play it, Sam... As Time Goes By...
Lyrics and Music by Herman Hupfeld; © 1931 Warner Bros. Music Corp., ASCAP
This day and age we're living in Gives cause for apprehension With speed and new invention And things like fourth dimension Yet we get a trifle weary With Mr. Einstein's theory So we must get down to earth at times Relax relieve the tension And no matter what the progress Or what may yet be proved The simple facts of life are such They cannot be removed You must remember this A kiss is still a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh The fundamental things apply As time goes by And when two lovers woo They still say, "I love you" On that you can rely No matter what the future brings As time goes by Moonlight and love songs Never out of date Hearts full of passion Jealousy and hate Woman needs man And man must have his mate That no one can deny Well, it's still the same old story A fight for love and glory A case of do or die The world will always welcome lovers As time goes by Oh yes, the world will always welcome lovers As time goes by
