...now with his recently departed wife, June Carter.
He was one of the last true American musical icons, rock star, country star, legend.
Even when rock was "my thing" back in the 60's and 70's, I had a complete Johnny Cash collection...always loved the guy, especially his "Live from San Quentin" album.
The Man in Black will be missed...he was truly an original.

Well, may Johnny rest in peace. I understand from an NPR report that Johnny greatly influenced the bad boys of rock-and-roll: The Rolling Stones.

This guy's last album was smart! It was voted for six MTV music video awards; now that may not say anything about its quality, but how many elderly country singers have you seen on MTV! This guy was a man for all seasons. The 2002 album, "The Man Comes Around" included duets with great singers like Nick Cave and Fiona Apple, and covers of a Beatles song, a Paul Simon tune, and even a Nine Inch Nails track, 'Hurt'! This guy was younger and more 'cutting edge' in his final moments than your average fresh-faced rock band. The stand out track on the album by far though is the Depeche-Mode cover 'Personal Jesus' with a Cash steel-string thrashing out the classic riff. It says it all.
