Fascinating relationships. I was searching for more information about the nature of stealth in the MW Unabridged, and came across irreption as a synonym for a type of stealth.
Irreption came from the same root as reptile, which came from a Latin root meaning "to creep."
But just as interesting was the quoted example for use of irreption, which I'll paste below:
": an act or instance of entering by stealth or inadvertence <the irreption of pseudoclassical plurals in technical language> "
I'd loved to know an example of a 'pseudoclassical plural' if any of you know of one offhand!
