In a major upsetting revelation, max (on his first attempt!!) collected three(3!) votes, for six points. (also collecting six points for 2 votes in addition to doping the proper def’n was the widdiful, maverick; dxb had it right and also had a vote, for three pts.) no one else scored more than two, as votes were widely cast upon the ochlockonee. etaoin voted for himself, and richly deserves this recognition.

a. public, boisterous intoxication [musick]

b. emotionally labile, crying easily (Used mainly in rural Ireland; the origin is uncertain but probably related to widows) [Zed] Jackie

c. one who deserves hanging, a gallows-bird; a scamp, rascal [OED2] maverick, dxb

d. [obs.] describing a horse with thick, silky hair below the knee; such as the Clydesdale [ASp] wofa

e. to turn in a counter-clockwise direction while also moving in a vertical direction, either up or down [etaoin] etaoin

f. extremely agitated [Faldage] consuelo

g. [obs.] witty [Jackie]

h. compassionate, empathetic (from OE widdy - aware of, knowing) [wofa] Coffeebean

i. (alt. of) wonderful; fanciful [guest] JohnH

j. bringing bad luck (joc. combination of widdershins and suffix -ful) [Bingley] ASp

k. archaic expression of remorse [JohnH]

l. a blackbird of the genus Vidua found in various parts of Africa; so called from the prevailingly black plumage of the males, which are also distinguished by an immensely elongated train of tail-feathers [ron o.]

m. contrary, willful (from OHG widar against) [sjmaxq] Bingley, maahey, Zed

n. someone with ‘two left feet’, liable always to perform in a clumsy and inappropriate or even deliberately perverse fashion; an act so performed [dxb] WO’N

o. (ME) upside down, overturned, upset – by 1608 used figuratively rather than literally (now archaic, rare poetic use only) [maverick] musick, max

p. aglow, lit from within [consuelo] Faldage {see [f.]!}
