We are finally getting settled in in our new house. I'll be conducting a virtual tour later, but I thought I'd drop by briefly and let you know that we survived the move, the kids love the house, I love it even more, and intend never to move again.

The move went to heck when I discovered there was not room on the truck for the cherry wood I had accumulated to make Theo's bed. Nor was there room for four power tools, lawnmower, glass-topped patio table, vacuum cleaner, and some other stuff, including my stiarstepper and my recumbent exercise bike. We gave away what we could and left the rest out for the scavengers, who were descending before we pulled out of the driveway.

The first day driving was the worst; that was two weeks ago yesterday, and I drove 600 miles across Eastern CO and KS with no air conditioning and 107 degree F (about 41 or 42 C if my mental calculator hasn't been cooked.) I started out with the dog with me, and it was so hot we had to rearrange to put him in the car with AC.

The second and third day weren't so bad, but I certainly was glad to see the swimming pools at our motels.

We arrived here in Marion NC on Monday the 28th, got a walkthrough of the house, and closed on the purchase that afternoon.

Then the hell began. Our furniture truck arrived on the evening of the 29th, but the unloaders couldn't make it until the first of August, which was a week ago yesterday. The showed up at 11:30, two of them instead of the four contracted for, and without any equipment. I stepped in to help with the unloading, which Peggy didn't want me to do, and an hour after they got here, they said, "We have to go get some help," and took off in their car. I predicted, quite accurately, that we would not see them again.

Peggy and I unloaded as much as we could, but got to a point where the only stuff we could reach was a 20 cubic foot freezer, a 25-cubic foot refrigetrator, a table saw, a large band saw and a honkin' big drill press.

Then to our rescue rode our new next-door neighbor, who called his church youth group. I rented an appliance dolly and the youngsters (early 20s) showed up Saturday morning and got us unloaded in about 3 hours.

These new neighbors are pretty wonderful, and they have two kids, a boy a bit younger than Theo and a little girl who is 3 1/2, a couple years younger than Sasha. Cassie, the little girl, is profoundly deaf, but has a cochlear implant (which was coincidentally pioneered by the doctor who removed my brain tumor five years ago.) This kid is as brillinant as Sasha, has a cheerful, golden personality, and curly hair too. There is a bit of a speech ipmediment, but I'm getting pretty good at figuring out what she wants.

And that's pretty necessary, since the Walker kids are here as much as our kids are, and our kids are over there just as much. At any given moment between breakfdast and bedtime we can have anywhere from zero to four kids rambling around the house. I'm ecstatic about it!! This is what God intended when he created retirement.

I gotta run start dinner, and I can't promise I'll be around a whole lot for a couple of weeks, but I will get to be more of a regular again. I promise.

HUGS to all of you

TEd

Welcome back, TEd, I am pleased that things are looking up for you. On a wordy sort of note, may I ask if Denver was really as bad as your subject line would seem to suggest?

Whoa, Ted! Sorry to hear that the move wasn't a breeze. But I'm still green as grass over that new house of yours! I hope you (continue) to enjoy it!

Oh man, what a time you-all had; idiot movers! I sure hope they don't try to collect full payment. But things can only get better from here on!
