Wounded by the savage attack upon me by the boyo from the valleys, I have managed to upload my rebuttal. If your shellikes have never been blessed with the ecstatic experience of hearing the most mellifluous national accent in the history of sentience, here's your chance:

It was a crack - I'm recovering from a bronchial cold, and my voice is even more melodious than usual as a result. However, the inflection itself was intentional, designed to convey bewilderment (or, as said in Zildish, bewuld(schwa)ment).

the inflection (e.a.) itself was intentional

Next time there's gonna be a quiz, Max.

What inflection means

Well, I was assuming it meant a change in pitch or tone, that sort of thing. That was done intentionally, but, as happens with disconcerting frequency for me, my voice cracked as well. So, it was a crack, and the inflection was intentional, at least seen in the light of my neuron's substandard grasp of English.

It's the "chicken/check-in" dialogue mentioned in another thread, tsuwm. I just read it out loud.

Max, mea maxima culpa. I was applying prescriptionist pressure when there was no reason. My point *was that "inflection" refers to the particles (endings, etc) added to words to indicate their grammatical position (as discussed in another thread). But in the context you used, it's perfectly OK and intelligible (as is your voice), in my book, whatever it's now worth. :)
