My supervisor's wife just had a baby in November and guess what her name is - Alida. They say (and it makes sense to me, from my knowledge of Italian) that it means "winged one" in Latin. Since ali is wings, and the da ending sounds like past tense ta, I'm willing to believe them. Small world, eh?
