Dr Bill's sourse of word list has temporarily dried up..
he overwhelmed at times.. but he also started may new threads-- and made us think about many a 'common' word.
sometimes, he even hijacked tsuwm words..(not to many common words there, though!)
how about a theme week?
doing a theme for the real AWAD, requires finding quotations, and research.. i propose something less researched, --
how about words (choose your own theme) and we use them as a start to a discussion... common words.. the commoner the better..(or maybe fun stuff like uncommon irregular verbs. i was blown away when i learned about nigh, near, next!)
i'm about to post my first word, (Misc.) i have 5 on a theme.. about 3 out the 5 have ie roots, (just luck on my part for 2 of them, the third i knew about)
i liked Wordwinds link to "more than you ever wanted to know about cables"- and this could be almost the same sort of thing.. and i think this could be fun..
I'm game (so to speak).
Helen, I think this is GREAT idea!! I think I know what my theme is going to be!May I say, you're ahead of me on nigh, near, next, and ie. Are we to do this one word per day? I'm so excited, I want to do all five right now! Guess I'd better go look at your Misc. post, huh?
Edit: ne'er mind, on ie--just saw it in another post and got my memory jogged.
"I'm game (so to speak)."
"Game" is a colloquialism perhaps some of our members may not be familiar with. Reminds me of joke about some football jocks out hunting. They met a sexy bimbo, and said: "We're hunting for game. Seen any?"
She said: "No, but I'm game!" So they shot her.
I wonder what figure of speach "I'm game" is.
So who's going to throw out the first ball in of troy's new game?
Hasn't she done it herself in Miscellaneous?
