a repeat episode of the simpsons has me thinking (it was an episode about a trip to the zoo) it had two items of interest..one it repeated the (fact?) that Rhino's are the 'firefighters' of the bush, and will stamp out fires (i first heard/learned this in the wonderful movie The Gods Must Be Crazy*) does any know-- is it true?
and in refering the beast, they called them Thunder Lizzards--Ok, lets look Rhino saurus..(like dinosaurus.. (giant lizzars..) OK, i accept the 'lizzard ending..but rhino as thunder? i would have thought it was related to rhino as in nose...refering to the big front horn.. we had fun with hippo's -- what about rhino's?
*a very, very funny movie!

I especally liked the scene where Xixo spies his first white woman, the beautiful blonde schoolmarm. He comments in voice over that she was the ugliest thing he had ever seen, like something you'd find skittering away when you turned a rock over.

All very sad though. A Seth Effrican friend of mine told me that the bushmen living as Xixo "did" in the movie just about don't exist any more, and that interbreeding with the Cape Coloureds and Hottentots has just about wiped them out racially and overwhelmed them culturally, including their language.
Not on the UN's endangered species list, either!
