Run your tongue along the front of your top teeth between the gum and your lip. About half way along there's a web of skin. There's a similar but less prominent one between your bottom gum and your bottom lip. What are they called?

Here's what Atomica gives as the etymology:
 [Latin fre*num, bridle, from frendere, to grind.]

It also says the plural is frenula. (Good for you, slithy; I had no idea.)

*There is supposed to be a straight line over the e, but it appeared here as a cedilla.
