Sometimes, it is spelt with the e and sometimes without; chiefly Scottish. And yes, it means child, as in, 'a wee bairn'. He later got fired for fabricating sources. Here's one place where spelling is *truly discretional (eg. "shorties")... even google counts them perty similar... does this mean "shorty" ain't a werd?)
