a. Minimalist African dance so named by Dutch settlers because of the elaborate costumes displayed. (From Dutch: costuum + pleyen) submitted by coffeebean; fooled annastrophic

b. a dual screen display monitor often used by designers. One screen showing the whole layout, the other used to zoom in to details. Now used to describe any multi-screen display, such as those seen at pop concerts.submitted by dxb; fooled faldage, wordwind, bonzaialsatian.

c. verb coh – splay To produce a two or more splay-trees simulataneously for several topics or sub-topics of a single subject.submitted by rhubarbcommando; fooled consuelo

d. part of the mating dance of large birds, during which they stand on the ground facing each other, spread their wings widely and flap them intermittently submitted by wofahulicodoc; fooled maahey,Whitman O'Neill

e. event where fans dress up as characters from favourite TV shows, the costumes used at such events [from costume + display] the correct definition. Correctly guessed by dxb and coffeebean

f. a field planted in lettuce submitted by consuelo; fooled etaoin and wofahulicodoc

g. game similar to charades invented by Lewis Carroll for the entertainment of his young friends submitted by bingley, fooled rhubarbcommando

My source tells me that the word cosplay started its life at conventions for anime fans, but has moved out into other fandoms, and costumiers are starting to use it as well.

I would note that some votes are not because yyyy (you know who y'all are!) has been fooled but rather out of admiration for the cleverness-appropriateness-audacity-or-whatever of xxxx ! :-)
