iggri/iggry
choose one:
(entries from Fiberbabe, belM, ElizabethC, dxb, Bingley, Faldage, Sparteye, ASp, wofa, maverick, tsuwm, WO’N, Capfka, musick, Zed & a usually reliable source)

a) a Polynesian bridal wrap []

b) a type of lighting filter used in movie-making; it enables the filming of evening outdoor scenes in bright daylight. []

c) a lizard-like undersea monster prevalent in the Old Icelandic eddas. []

d) describes a solid which when struck with sufficient force will break into smaller rounded pieces; tempered glass and some aggregate stones said to be iggri. []

e) the metal fitting joining a pencil and its eraser []

f) a riding jacket, worn in India; analogous to jodhpurs. []

g) [intj.] Hurry up! also as n. in phrase to get an iggri on. []

h) apophatic []

i) archaic the habitual domination of conversation by a boor []

j) a tool used to remove stones from sheep's hooves; from the Basque word for "fingers." []

k) to move slowly, often as a manifestation of depression; to mope. []

l) the seed linings of a pomegranate. []

m) a tendency to protein deficiency associated with particular lymphatic disorders, found mainly among some peoples from the Indian sub-continent. []

n) Egyptian term for sloth, esp. in government bureaucracy adopted into English during the colonial period as a word to describe the byzantine complexity of bureaucratic decision-making and the glacial speed at which government decisions are made. []

o) a type of thieves’ argot or back-slang developed in the Chicago stockyards and much used in the early 19th C; the final letter was removed and placed at the front of the word preceded by a randomly chosen vowel. -- the true name for the argot would thus have been Grig or Gryg and is thought to be a corruption of Greek, the idea deriving from the expression “it’s all Greek to me”. []

p) dialect a particularly treacherous Icelandic terrain consisting of small, weathered bits of lava overlying the sharper, sloped lava bed from which they have been detached. []

Awww. The addition of the spelling with the "Y" makes it very difficult.

With the "I" alone it could have been a thing, but with the "Y" it can also mean something's condition (i.e. fun/funny)

*sigh*

Hazarding a guess...I say "D"

I, too, like i and think it'd be a quite useful word to utilize [sic] around here. Meanwhile, the Basque j is quite appealing, as are the two Icelandics.

I'm going with o for the sheer absurd creativity yet almost-believability.

I wonder if I should run an extortion racket - "pay me or I'll pick the same one you do!"

Since I'm too nice for that sort of nastiness, I shall get in first, and put my unique kibosh on the letter M, thank you very much.

darn, I was gonna go for M! - there's definitely something tugging at my half-memory there. OK, O is wonderfully inventive (I suspect musick), P is an obvious contender (though what does the syncronicity of another Icelandic reference and another 'bits of rock' daftynition indicate if anything?!)... N is splendid (I accuse Dixbie, in the Library, with the Dictionary!), and as for "the habitual domination of conversation by a boor", well give that person a gold medal! Does that make the perpetraitor [sic] an iggrianus?

OK, ok, I'll go for the pomegranate. No, the lizard. No, the slow-moving depression... fits my mood

OK already, I'll remove the polynesian bridal wrap. nobut, yeahbut, nobut gimme C.

I wondered if that was kinda like the way tsuwm's monsters tend to be a bit like the real definition of the word - some kind of lexicographical leakage, perhaps?

OK, as the last dilatory soul, I'll pick J, although I'm quite fond of L and will throw a perfect fit if that ends up being the right answer! [/promises, promises]

If it's not the right answer, then props to whoever almost had me.

okay, I think that's everyone that had an entry, which must be some sort of record response (less than three(3) days)!

I'll post the results as soon as I get a chance to edit the names into the file. meanwhile, the rest of you lurkers can take a SWAG.
