I guess everyone's heard about Cristo's Gates in Central Park. Last night, I was browsing through the Cornell library's online collection of documents from American history, and happened on this Article from an 1866 issue of "The Galaxy," a New York City magazine, entitled "Gateways of The Central Park."

Ah! Richard Hunt! I think he was the architect for the Biltmore in Asheville, NC.

Feed your link into http://snipurl.com/ and then edit your post with the new-and-improved tiny link, insel.

Have you gone to experience the Gates yourself?

We heard Cristo and spouse being interviewed on NPR some weeks ago; sorry and all that, but they sounded incredibly egotistical--to say nothing of money-grubbing.

Thanks for the tip, A. Done.

No, I haven't gone yet. A friend's friend says they remind him of a car wash.

Jackie, egotistical, probably, but I don't thing they make a lot on these projects. And the installation does seem to make most visitors happy.

I'll go with my sister, when she comes into town, and let you know what I think, if anything.

I just went to their official web site. I guess I'll retract my 'money-grubbing' statement; but she did mention on the air that ...preliminary drawings, or something like that...were offered at a price. Possibly she was just trying to save getting some unnecessary phone calls, but it struck me as tacky to mention that there was a cost.

Ha! I love that description. I can see it! Don't tell the arty folks though. They might get all a-flutter with indignation.

a car wash

It reminds me of a car wash too.

I like some of Christo’s other works, but I’m not getting ‘The Gates’.

Here’s a site with lots of pictures, for any who care:
