This one wasn't poetic, but it took a huge weight off my shoulders. It assured me that I "no longer had to cross the border" to get cheap prescription drugs. Since it's been a while since I was up to swimming 2,000 kilometres, I was enormously relievd to hear this.

Re: hyena lacuna checklist marvel. "Could someone provide the story please?"

I know it sounds like a lipstick, but it actually makes some kind of sense.

Anatomically, a "lacuna" is "an empty space or a missing part".

Metaphorically, "lacuna" is missing grey matter, or simply "ignorance".

"Hyena" rhymes with "lacuna" but it also conjures up "laughing hyena".

Hyenas don't actually laugh. They are too empty-handed to laugh. And some people lacking in grey matter have more in common with hyenas than their laugh.

Hence, "hyena lacuna".

It is not a compliment.

The term "hyena lacuna" may spring to mind the next time someone sends you a reply beginning "LOL", particularly if you haven't said anything funny.

"checklist marvel" is just some archive somewhere, I suspect.

I found the lovely AnnaS's discovery to be particularly interesting since, Flagstaff, located in the American southwest, might be expected to have many examples of the adobe architecture so often accompanied by those quaint red-tiled roofs. On the contrary, whether due to the climate or the history, there was little, if any Hispano-American influence and there are few, if any, buildings of that nature.

but I gotta post this one:

Plethora B. Distastefully

~~
A double-dactyl this is not. But I can see it as a lyric in a G&S light opera/band candy sale/car wash event.

Edit:

These are just too good:

Impenetrably T. Hostesses

Economists K. Nominatives

(somebody restrain me!)

Ain't it the truth, dody! This subject also came up on National Public Radio yesterday, and reproduced in this fine publication:

The latter doesn't say all that easily* but I love the imagery.

*I keep wanting to be oh so explicit about the T.

Only the most indigent hyenas should be too empty handed to
laugh.
And if you meant empty headed, I'm sure a lot of laughter
must come from those with large lacunae.

Imprisonments H. Naiades

What I find particularly interesting about this one is the last name. AHD gives both naiads and naiades as plurals of naiad. The former would be the more common English plural but the latter is the correct Latin plural (nom. and acc., anyway).

I really *was gonna quit posting these, but this one is extra-special: the "sender" and the message are linked.

An ad for Viagra was sent by

Johnson L. Potency

How random is that?

I was (not very) surprised to find today that an email with the subject line "gumption gene" had nothing to do with what it seems to imply.

Well, I got something this morning promising "belch bandwagon", but it just turned out to be for Viagra. Is belching a clinically-known side effect?

Like many of you, we receive hundreds of spam (unsolicited) e-mails each week. It seems the people behind them are now well aware that one method of filtering these e-mails is to block anything with certain words (free, viagra, weight-loss and so on) in the subject line. Instead the senders are now generating e-mails with apparently random words, sometimes with quite poetic results. A couple we've had recently are "grammar congresswoman" and "carrot necromancer".
