What is the word that describes the skin's ability to ignore the sensation of things touching it, like a wristband, ring, etc. I found this word once but have forgotten it. Anyone know? (I posted this note on Miscellany a few minutes ago, then realized it belonged here.)

Would "desensitization" apply?

The tactile sense processes information about touch which it mainly receives through the skin. When you do not need to register this information, the brain tunes it out and this is called habituation.

From a book by Carol Stock Kranowitz.
