Anyone know what they called the fur accessory draped around the collar of the "cloth coat" in the thirties and forties, with the little fox face whose mouth bit its "tail" to fasten it?I think it was a fox, not a mink. A fur collar, furpiece, not a stole, I don't think? Also, were men's everyday felt hats during these years called anything else but "fedora" or "homburg?"

My mother called her fox fur-piece a stole,
and my dad wore fedoras--quite dashing, I always thought.

Come to think of it, the wide, colored loops of cloth that we slip over our heads so that they rest on top of our
choir robes are called stoles, so maybe a stole is anything along these lines.

Perhaps she was referring to the price. If it was a steal, it must now be a stole.

The word I heard used was a "fox fur". We have too many animal rights campaigners now to be allowed out with anything like that.
