I just saw a job posting for "Investigation Supervisor - SWAT" at the Ministry of the Environment - it's for some kind of enforcement programme. I always thought SWAT meant special weapons and tactics - ya know, dramatic stuff like in the movies. Has the meaning changed?
There is no Registry for Acronymic Purity, neither national nor international.
