Good day/night to all wordlovers. I am a Russian amateur translator. I am working on a web-page of a nongovernmental
organisation and I would like to show my translation to a native speaker, preferably American.

Thank you

Dear Vika: you are the first Russian speaker to post here. I am completely
ignorant of Russian. Perhaps it would be interesting to have you submit some
samples of your work, and our members might be able to make helpful suggestions .
A lot of our best qualified scholars are not posting at this time, because we
recently had a flame-war that caused almost forty contributors to
leave.
I think many of those of us who are still posting would welcome your
showing us some of your work. Bill Hunt

Welcome, Vika. Sure! Post what you've been working on and I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions and encouragement.

Best regards,
Wordwind

Welcome to AWAD, Vika!

You said: I would like to show my translation to a native speaker, preferably American

As many have suggested here, you are welcome to submit your information and most would be happy to peruse it. The beauty of this forum of people is that you'll get a world-wide perspective about your site.

I tried to translate the "welcome" message at the top of this page with an online translator (the one I used is http://www.rustran.com) and it worked but when I pasted it here, it didn't stay in Russian. However, my idea was to show you that there are lots of tools available for translation. I know that you have already translated your web site, but it might be interesting to see what a web page translator comes up with. If you would like to try this, one site you can go to is: http://babelfish.altavista.com/

Anyway, I'm glad you are here, and I hope you continue to come back.

thank you for suggestion of on-line translation but have you ever tried to translate something and translate it back? it looks awful - that's why "live" translators are still earning money. a machine does not understand metaphors and word usage. for example, what would you think about a phrase "it does not occupy(borrow) a lot of time? funny? it is a machine translation of something like "it does not take a lot of time"

Dear Vika: how about giving us some samples of your work in which you perhaps
had difficulty putting the sense into well chosen words? I used to know a fair
amount of German, and remember having trouble keeping my translation from
getting stilted (inappropriately formal, awkward phrases).

Hi Vika -

I don't have any Russian (well, apart from things like "da" and "nyet" and, for obscure reasons, "fructy salat"!) but I do love words and English, and have done some editing work for people writing in English. I'm going to write to you in a PM (private message) - to see it (in case you're new enough here that you haven't noticed this yet!), you click "Check Private" near the top of the screen. Maybe we could work something out, if you haven't already found someone? I'd be glad to look at some of your work....

Let us go in peace to love and serve the board.
