From the hunting regulation book for New York:
Frogs
Frogs may be taken statewide, from sunrise to sunset, from June 15 to September 30. There is no limit. A fishing or small game license is required to take frogs with a spear, club, hook, or by hand. A small game license is required to take frogs with a gun or bow.

'parently it's still legal to drove (ie walk) sheep over the Sydney Harbour Bridge between the hours of 5am and 7am....for a penny a head toll. (And pennies went of circulation in 1966).

taking frogs with a gun would seem to be, somehow, counterproductive.... unless of course you just don't like frogs.

I wonder whether there is any connectin between the derivation of gigging frogs and musicians' gigs?

gig, n. [six unique words]
1. something that whirls
2. a two-wheeled carriage (transferral from 1?)
3. a squeaking noise
4. a kind of fish spear (shortened from fizgig)
5. a hole in the ground for drying flax
6. an engagement for a musician
(and there are seven(7) verb entries)
