Palindrome. It's good for whole phrases and sentences. Able was I ere I saw Elba.

Wouldn't it be so much more clever if the word for a palindrome was itself a palindrome?

A man, a plan, a canal: Panama.

You know, to keep this word-related, we could discuss the difference between "admit to" and "claim".

Nice one, SE...

Of course no man on the planet would want to be subjected to the scorn of "the young nun from Peru".

I *was going to make a comment to the effect that admit to implied some sort of guilt on the part of the one doing the admitting, but I see I don't need to.

Now I think we're talking about the difference between "claim" and "proclaim".

"NI*ON ANOMHMATAMH.M.ONANO*IN"

"When you call me that," the Virginian said, "smile."

It looks like a swear word. I couldn't pronounce it, and I wouldn't dare try it smile or no smile, to the Virginian gunfighter.

It's Greek. The asterisks are the letter psi (=ps). The H is a capital eta (long e) not a capital h. It should read:

NIPSON ANOMHMA MH MONON OPSIN

It's often found on baptismal fonts.
