When did A-S words like "kettle, bottle, settle, spittle, nettle, mettle, fettle, little," become "kettel, bottel, settel, spittel, nettel, mettel, fettel, littel"? Or were they always "misspelled"? OE cetel, cetil, chytel, ME kettel, chytel, etc.; OE lȳtel. ME litelle, litle, litl, littel, little, etc. You, too, can have fun looking the rest of these up: for Old English and Middle English.
