"In the after years when the children came....she told them their father was a "rootin' tootin' travelin' man." The singer had a great smoky, whiskey voice. The cynical Porter in Macbeth talks of "..the primrose path to the everlasting bonfire", i.e. Hell. Why primrose? Possibly because it is about the first wild flower to appear in Spring (in England, anyway) in sufficient numbers to line a path.
