what is sometimes refereed to as......'beating around the bush'

In everyday speech, this might become annoying but in literature I like it. It adds to the description and I sometimes marvel at how some people can string words together.

Like in this quotation I found when looking up word animus this morning. (Thanks Luke, for new word).
