well, we have coydogs here and I've only heard it pronounced koi-dog. so I would go with koi-wolf.

though now I can't get a picture of some strange fish-dog mix!

Was camping a few weeks back. Coyotes were keeping the camp

Coyotes do not really bark like dogs do they ? I heard only a very short kai-kai sound at the end of the gigantic howl.

Yes! That was exactly it, only he or she yepped only twice. It had this high pitched sound that I did not directly associate with a dog bark sound. Thanks!
