This is one of those words (like Skidadle) that I remember as a part of growing up. My father used these words and I assumed he invented them!
I think it almost qualifies as an onemonepia.
It makes an old man feel young (for a moment) to be reminded of childhood in this way.

I remember it as discomboobulate. Or is it discombubulate?
No doubt you will find variations in different dialects.
