When my kids were very, very young, I used to call each of them "a nugatory baby."

I *really* like this word. I can hardly help but smile when I repeat it to myself. It's as if trivialities were attempting to be audacious; things of little value flaunting their great worth - like reality television, political commentary, or various and sundry prognostications and sage revelations by snake-oil salesmen through the ages.

Fal thank you for that, which I have duly added to my list of words to use if ever the opportunity arises

I would have assumed it meant a far-right-wing politico choking on a prune pit

I, too, intend to use that word quite a lot.
On a daily basis I meet great opportunities for it!!

I read this strange word as Nougacity. (noo-ga-city)
A city completely built of nougat bricks.

Nougat (noo-gá )
• noun. a sweet made from sugar or honey, nuts, and egg white.
— ORIGIN French, from Provençal noga ‘nut’.

We call this tempting sweet 'noga '.

It wouldn't last long (the nougat city).. I'd devour it!

i love italian (real nougat) but even the psudo nougat found in snickers bars is good..

nougat is made by 'cooking' whipped egg whites with hot syrup (usually a syrup made with honey) the nuts (usually almonds) are cook in the syrup to flavor it.. mmm!

I would have thought it meant the opposite of what it does - I guessed it meant pithy or of worth, like nugget, but it means of no worth, like negate and its cognitives! \:o

When out of work for a couple of years back around the turn of the century (boy am I getting old, being able to say that!), I had some casual work at a food importing warehouse, and they imported from South Africa this honey almond nougat in great quantities. Once I got to take home a bag with several kilos in it that had partly melted in transit and couldn't be sold. Yum!
