Yeahbut, it has been rather slow; note tsuwm's unearthings.

For us Merkins, it's summer's last hurrah, marked by Labor Day (today). I suspect many are vacationing or just spending as much time as they can outdoors having real lives.

What, no whittling?

I almost misspelled whittling as "witling". It's a word though: "a person who considers themselves to be witty." (Warning! Archaic and chiefly derogatory!)

The primary reason that I have been away is that I have been in a mental hospital after suffering a nervous breakdown. I had been becoming increasingly agitated over a period of months, which my doctors attributed to chronic exposure to the misuse of literally. I reached my wits' end when I read in the local paper "...rather then [sic] give up, he literally set himself on fire in order to complete the task." My wife found me curled up in a ball in the corner, clutching a copy of Strunk & White. I was admitted and treated with liberal doses of P.G. Wodehouse Jane Austen, and since then I have recovered enough that I even survived the assault of de-ba'athification today with but a small jolt.

Tried to read it to find de-ba'athification but found myself getting dizzy and having difficulty focussing my eyes past the sports metaphor.

If one misuses the word literally, could he said to be illiteral?

well, one would certainly be a litterer.

Believe it or not, you had me right up to "misuse of literally." Literally.

Hydra: I'm still under the impression that things have slowed down, and I am wondering, without casting aspersions of any kind, whether lengthy participation in a blog or forum palls on the average contributor (me)

I this conncetion I hve noted that most institutions undergo a cycle of birth, life, and death. Why don't you post a new thread to that effect and see what happens

Well some of us literally have been away. One of us was wandering around Helsinki about this time. Probably Finnished with one phrase book if anyone wants it.
