How about "Donkey"? A friend of mine who has/trains racehorses uses that as a stable name for his best pacer. He wanted to register that as her race name but got a tart rejoinder from the NZ Trotting Association that it might bring the industry into disrepute. Pardon? I'd have thought it was a bit late for that!

OK, how about Donqui Xote? Or are we tilting at windmills trying to pass that one off? Or will the tart still issue her opprobrious rejoinder? Or, if you've seen the movie, "Babe," perhaps your friend should enter a sow named Equus, or something.

No, Geoff, you're not the only who remembers Spike Jones's version of the William Tell overture (I think) and many other 'classics'. I still have a couple of LPs of his, and had many 78s (remember those?) when I was a youngster.

the last lot of equine names were lost when the dreaded Win95 caused all my files to be lost :-(
