Jackie,

Thanks for brining it out. I wasn't aware of this.
That FAQ is the boilerplate that came as part of the
bulletin board software. I've gotten rid of the line
about censoring, etc.

I wondered whether you'd written all that or not. HEY--there isn't a blowing-a-kiss smiley any more!

I JUST WANT TO ASK IF MR. GARG WOULD EVER GIVE HIS EVALUATION OR OPINION OF THE DIFFERENT DICTIONARIES OUT THERE...... INCLUDING CROSSWORD DICTIONARIES. WHERE/WHEN/HOW WOULD I POST A QUESTION LIKE THAT? I SENT AN EMAIL AND IT WAS KICKED BACK, SUGGESTING THAT I USE THE "BOARD". THIS IS ALL NEW TO ME. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

CHIUNGALA, I would love to hear his opinion, too! However, if history is anything to go by, we're not very likely to get an answer.

I suggest that you go to Miscellany, and make a post asking members what they think. This subject has been touched on many many times before here--so many that a Search on the word dictionary turns up way more posts than *I care to open--but maybe people will be ready/willing to offer opinions again.

Um--you might also want to consider not using all caps. Some people take that as the writer shouting at them. I just find it a bit hard to read. I think we did have someone on here at one time who did that because they couldn't see very well. If that's the case, I don't have any suggestion for you. We used to be able to alter our font size, but I don't think we can now (for reading).

EDIT: if it's simply information you want, I strongly suggest that you or anyone go back to the thread list for Info. and Announcements, and click on Max's Useful Language Links . You'll find enough there to keep you occupied for a
l-o-n-g time! (Thank you again, Max.)

Control and mousewheel down, or control and + will do it. If you want the default display to be bigger, adjust in your display settings(Control Panel\Display) or adjust your browser's settings. In Firefox, there's a button that disables web page overriding of your font size settings, and I'm pretty sure there's one in IE, too, 6 and 7. Not sure about Safari.

Control and mousewheel down, or control and + will do it. Not for me, they don't; I tried both, and nothing on my screen changed at all.

And, I didn't realize that anyone else had a Control Panel option . I have the feeling that mine is not the same as everyone else's...I think if I were to change mine I'd change them for everybody.

you have to roll the wheel to effect a change. (CTRL-0 [zero] to return to normal)

as to Control Panel changes, that refers to *your Windows CP, not anything within AWAD.

This is a true mouse gesture (a term which always leaves me with a feeling that one is talking about something vaguely obscene).

If he needs bigger text in AWAD, don't you think he might want bigger text in the windows?

Anyways, you can also get to the display options by right-clicking on the desktop. Under 'Appearance', since you probably have Windows.

Don't you love when you can do something five dozen ways?

you have to roll the wheel to effect a change. I did. Nothing happens at all. Nothing happens when I (just) hold down the Ctrl button; and nothing happens when I hold it down and roll the mouse wheel down or up. When I let go the Ctrl button, the page does scroll up and down, but nothing actually changes.

Huh; very interesting. It works in IE, but not in the version of IE that AOL piggybacks onto. I just assumed that the AOL version of IE was the same as IE. Silly me.

AOL-IE!? Either one by itself is bad enough; stack 'em one on top of each other and you've got the worst of both possible worlds.

An opinion to which you are entitled, but you may recall that I have two young children who use our computers and AOL makes it a lot easier for them, and gives us significant control of their activities.
