...the nasty candy/flavor that I know as licorice? A Brit-speaking friend seems to think it is spelled liquorice. Whichever, I thought this site about it was pretty interesting: Glycyrrhiza glabra L. (Hint: there is word info. below the medical stuff.)

I've seen it both ways, but I would use the first spelling if I had occasion to write about it. Good n Plenty, anyone?

Usually, I spell it "réglisse"  (I'm with Consuelo on this though - yuck!!)

I'm with ASp, though sometimes I say likkeriss. probably because of this: "licorice! licorice! black sweet licorice, black sweet licorice! have some."

I too would probably say likkerish, but would spell it liquorice. I'm really quite fond of the stuff. Perhaps the actual sweet tastes different in N. America as well as being spelt differently.
