Wow, Helen! You can be comfortable with both pronunciations! Or either one, whichever....Reminds me of ambidexterity but I can't think of a word that fits pronunciations. I think I do that with route, and I hear it with amen. But most people stick with a choice on either and neither.

I'm comfortable with both pronounciations too.. I hadn't noticed before I thought about it though. Depends on the context of the word.

Ditto.Shocked was I to learn that when I say "eye"ther, I'm being either pretentious or British (still trying to work out which is the graver insult).
