OP ankylosis .,
pl. ses Gr ankylosis < ankyloun, to crook, stiffen < ankylos, crooked: see ANKLE6
1 Med. a stiffening of a joint, caused by the pathological joining of bones or fibrous parts, by injury, or by surgical procedure
2 Zool. a joining of bones or fibrous parts into a single part
ankylotic
adj.
A medical word, but something that happens to all of us if we live long enough.
But quite suitable for use to describe the aging and loss of function of some
of our traditions of free speech when political correctness is in vogue.
Incidentally the etymology of "vogue" is interesting - "French lit. rowing of a ship".....
