Arf, Arf, eerfeerf! Welcome, in other words! Guess I'll be brave and ask if you'd care to share how you got your username.
A dam holds something back, usually water. A damN can be
remembered by thinking of condemNation, perhaps as in, "A person can literally be condemNed to death, and figuratively damNed to Hell".
Spelling: beavers are damming the creek. The preacher is damning sinners. The dammed creek is blocked. The damned beavers did it. The damned preacher shouldn't have said that!
