OP I called someone for insulting me while veiling it as a compliment. I figured this condition probably has a term, and apparently it does. Charientism. Defined as "a gracefully veiled insult" ( http://home.mn.rr.com/wwftd/abc.htm#charientism ). I thought I'd share this finding...
