OP Finis and finish both entered English in 1400s. They both ultimately came from Latin, though the etymologists don't say so. And to say a word is derived from Latin and give it
a French pronunication is a bit inconsistent. I have never heard the final "s" pronounced as shown in the dictionaries.)
