OP O.Henry mentions the Catawba River, of which I had never before heard. But I remember that we had Catawba grape vines, whose grapes had a distinctive pleasant flavor. I would expect them to be hard to find now. I did find a comercial site about them.
" In the mid-1800's John Michael Meier came to America from Germany and was granted a homestead just north of Cincinnati. On his land he found wild Catawba grapes growing, which were different from any he had known in Germany."
