From a note about Pliny the Younger:
In these, as in his public activities in
general, he appears as a man of public spirit and integrity; and in his
relations with his native town he was a thoughtful and munificent

munificent
adj.
5L munificens < munificus, bountiful < munus, a gift (akin to munia: see MUNICIPAL) + facere, to make: see DO16
1 very generous in giving; lavish
2 characterized by great generosity !a munificent reward"
mu[nif$i[cence
n.
mu[nif$i[cent[ly
adv.
If the root is "munus" = gift, I'm surprised there are not other words based on same root.
At the moment I can't think of any. Can you? (except remunerate)
benefactor.
