Dunno what you know as cheesecloth. What USns call cheesecloth wouldn't work for this kind of shirt. Would you wear a shirt made of it? And go to work in that shirt? It's a little more casual than your standard dress shirt but not so much to stop you from going to work.

Helen's already been here on that one, Bingley. In response to Jo asking about what she knows as cheesecloth blouses, of troy said: the blouses Jo defined--(circa 1960) sheer to almost sheer-- in this country that fabric would be voile, or lawn..

Here's a site where you can view cheesecloth weaves:

Finally found a good close-up of oxford cloth (scroll down):

Thanks Jackie - looks rather like our work uniform shirts. These are referred to as chambre - 100% cotton but. Are we talking chambre ~/= oxford??

Ted, I keep getting a note that the link doesn't work. Is there something special I should be doing?

It must be down for the moment, bel! Maybe they're adding new pictures. But be patient; it's worth it

Ha, welcome to buffalo lodge TEd. C'est cute.

I had to double-check your post though since I just looked at third picture and thought, hmmmm, doesn't look like that would be him. Looks kinda like Jimmy Durante. Then I went back and saw you said third picture down.

How neat, now I'll recognise you in Ireland. Are ya bringing the hat? I know how you guys do love your tatty accessories.
