Flosculous

Flos"cu*lous (?), a. (Bot.) Consisting of many gamopetalous florets

Which reminds me of an ancient vaudeville vulgarity. A gallant carrying a rooster offers it
to a florid female carrying a flosculous bouquet, which she says prevents her accepting his
tender. The word "flowers" was a now obsolete euphemism for an endocrine induced
phenomenon that recurs approximately every thirty days. Full stop. .

Which reminds me of a joke just before WWII actually began. Fear of war had caused rapid
inflation. A HongKong business man took money to the bank on Monday, and was disconcerted
to be told that he could not be credited wth face value of the currency, because its value had
fluctuated.
When he took more money to the bank the next day, he looked at the receipt, which was
far less than the face value of the currency he had deposited, and exclaimed: "Flucked again!"

The science dealing with watercourses. Which reminds me of legal complications subsuemed
by "riparian rights" legal jungle in which people fight about usage of river water.
And also the Salic Law.

Saharan fruit-growing, foggara style

The Saharan desert seems an unlikely place to find wetlands, let alone a
thriving fruit-growing business. But Algeria's Ouled Saïd has both.

Ouled Sa?d is a network of oases in southwestern Algeria — an isolated island
of green in a vast ocean of sand dunes. This human-made wetland covers an
area of 25,400 hectares, and is a centre of date production in northern
Africa. Over 100 varieties of date are grown here, serving as a food staple for
local 'oasiens'. The dates also contribute to the local economy, with three
varieties exported to Sudan.

Ouled Sa?d relies on an ingenious and ancient system to capture and
distribute groundwater. This system, called foggara, works through a complex
network of underground channels and storage chambers that allow water to
flow within the oases. The water is then brought to the surface and
distributed according to an ancestral social organization via a tool called the
kasria.

Hmm...yeah, PFS...has more of a fitting ring to it than PMS.
