I wish I knew where Mrs. Bryne found this one, as I'd love to use it; but the closest thing I can find in the Big Books is schizothymia, which is borderline schizophrenia.

Mrs. Byrne

Nope...found it opn a site that came up on OneLook as a hit for something else:

Luciferous Logolepsy, dragging obscure words into the light of day

http://www.kokogiak.com/logolepsy/ow_s.html#schizothemia

(another treasure trove for ya, Dr. Bill!)

WO'N, as I mentioned in replying to your email, this is just a recapitulation of Mrs. Byrne's definition and I'd like to know her source. (I can safely claim this because many of Logolepsy's definitions track Mrs. B., and her book is much more accessible than a great majority of her bibliographical source material.)

in fact, I have a growing list of words that I've found only in the Dictionary of Unusual, Obscure, and Preposterous Words (and web sites that borrow extensively, such as Grandiloquent and Phrontistery) but in none of the "usual" sources.

Schizothemia--I can see it, but it seems to me it would be more for somebody who jumps back and forth between two themes. Anyway--doggone that Mrs. Byrne and all her ilk! I HATE thinking something is authentic, especially if I've used it with others, and then finding out somebody just made it up or something. GRR!!

> finding out somebody just made it up

Something tells me that this may well be true of every single word used in every language ever.

Watch it, you! I had my answer pre-pared (yes, I have filed it down! ) There is a difference between telling people you've made up a word, and trying to pass it off as a "real" word. (And don't anybody even START trying to argue--you know what I mean by real!)
