This comes from a reputable source (school system administrator):
There is a new computer virus showing up in email. The virus is disguised as an electronic greeting card, or "e-card". The email message may be from someone you know or from a total stranger. It will invite you to click on an Internet link to view the e-card. Unfortunately we are near the holidays and you may receive legitimate e-cards via email along with the virus infected versions.
Our email system and computers have been updated and are protected from this virus, but we have so many computers that some may still be vulnerable. Everyone also needs to be cautious of this on home computers.
For the record, I've never much liked E-cards, anyway. I prefer the brick-and-mortar kind (keeps my penmanship legible).

Here is a URL that says the e-card does not harm your computer, but copies all addresses and sends SPAM to all your friends. That's bad enough. There is other information worth reading. http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/e-card.htm

Thanks for the link, Dr. Bill. For those not inclined to go there, here's the crucial bit: Don't Respond to an E-Card Sent From "friendlygreetings.com"- The article goes on to say that technically this is NOT a virus, and ...you really should go and read it. It's not long.
