Called Dis'n i think now days..
it was a game we use to play on long summer nights.. when we would verbally spar with one an other and the winner was the one who could come up with the best verbal put down..
you'd start with something simple like "may the fleas of a thousand camals make their home in your arm pits", or "i hope the blue bird of happiness flys up your nose and takes a s***"
but they would move on and become more involved.. and often personal but they had to have a element of humor or creativity.
did yo play? and what did you call the game?

I don't know what this game is called and I've never played it, of troy--and I don't think my creativity would do very well in this particular area since my brain just does not work that way. Honestly.
But we had a thread a while back in which various members of the board insulted each other--and it was quite funny as long as you didn't lose your sense of humor and understood the insults were being given in the spirit of fun. Some insults were quite strong.
I think I remember someone observing there that the best insults were one that wove in something of truth about the particular character of the person being insulted.
I read the whole thread with interest as the insults developed their thick layers of tar and feathers, but I cannot remember the thread title...???

There is a term that was fairly common among black Americans some years back -- shooting the dozens, I think. It's a term for exchanging insulting remarks, usually in a bantering manner.

Yeah, and it gave way to 'rap,' didn't it? (The style and rhythm, I mean, not the content)

I never had heard this expression before, but I do like it--even though I'm incapable of shooting deuces...singles even. I only shoot the misfires.

Wheeeee-ooo, Wordwind! Memories of childhood. Haven't heard that in an age. (remember I am 73 so it was awhile ago.) My grandmother used it when frustrated with one of her seven boys as in : "Don't be such a dunderhead!" Thanks for the memory. I now await a chance to use it. As someone once said, "You may use profanity with impunity after you have mastered the English Language."

Yes, my mother was fond of that one too - it is pretty mild and quite amusing. I think that I will adopt it, I'd never say "dickhead" or worse, although "muttonhead" in the description below sounds quite interesting. http://www.dictionary.com/search?q=dunderhead
