OP Here'm what we got so far, collected so Faldage can keep em and everyone else can let the old thread die it needed killin'!
"It is more trouble to make a maxim than it is to do right" quoth tsuwm in Mark Twain’s words.
So a small challenge if anyone cares to try:
Make up a maxim which has no obvious meaning yet preferably sounds like it should have one, hovering just out of our grasp!

Thanks, mav. I already had all of them except Rock Island's last. I'll add it to the collexion. I agree about the potential for disqualification but decided to hold off on that until the list is complete.
And I agree about that, too.
I suppose we should set some cut off date. My feeling is that judging these can be an activity at the Wordapalooza (You need not be present to win!!).
Coming to this late, I offer two contributions:
1. A soft answer turneth away morning.
2. A wife who would rule her husband is like a hedgehog between two mushrooms.
Hey, this wasn't set up as a contest! If it becomes one, I'm withdrawing my suggestions right now! GRR!
Misogyny is soup for a Chinese woman.

Jackie's withdrawing her suggestions right now!
So noted, Jackie. But I only found one.
Originally, I said:
"It's a legless dog that leaves no tracks. maverick
That's my vote. Short, simple, literally true, yet meaningless."
But then, I thought, "The legless dog goes nowhere, thus leaving no tracks, therefore 'Only those who go nowhere leave no impression,' is literally true, and it possesses a deeper meaning."
Hmmm...this does get complicated.
Competition and confession think inside the same bun!
Lime is a green tasting rock.
A cloud is a high flying fog.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
What's the differences between a duck? One of his legs are both the same.
can't claim that i penned any of these, but alas....
EDIT: i changed this a little because i got the cloud quote wrong. it's a cloud is, not clouds are. it tastes better this way anyway :)
