The definitions for liripoop are below. I received 2 or more entries with a common theme, but I decided that since the the themed entries were sufficiently distinct from each other and the real answer, and that the total number of entries was fairly low, I would publish them as received.

1 - An Indian tassled umbrella popular among East India British in the early 1910's.

2 - A deck located in a ship's stern which is smaller and shorter than the main poop deck.

3 - Another name for a filibusterer, particularly one who employs euphuism.

4 - A tassel or other appendage on the end of a hood.

5 - The path that a ball makes down a nearly vertical incline.

6 - [Brit] a blockhead, nincompoop.

7 - The restricted headroom under the topmost deck of a man-of-war (circa 1800).

8 - The unit of currency of Tunisia.

9 - A railing around the poop deck.

10 - A short wooden flute from Trinidad with three finger-holes.

11 - A person who is careless and free with his money; spendthrift.

12 - A woman of loose morals, a courtesan.

results and new challenge up by Friday lunchtime.

Good Luck, Rod (Even I can't make up my mind and I supposedly know the right answer)

OK, someone has to start, so I shall go with no. 10 since I find it hard to believe any of the others could be it.

Ten? That couldn't be it. Don't Trinidadians have five fingers? I think I'll go with the one that has extra appendages, not missing ones. Yep, chalk me up for number 4.

Although it reeks of deception, I'll go for number 1. Merry Christmas, to whomever I'm donating points... (I'm voting on creativity here.)

I'm choosing 4 (four) because it's just so worthless and I seem to remember rejecting this word as being too worthless for words.

I haven't a clue, so I'll choose 11 on the basis that I like the number...

Clueless, I may have thrown in with the tide for four, except that Max is there. So I'm takin' 7, mates!

Edit: Oops, Max!...I meant 4, it was late! Maybe this is an omen of changing luck?

I choose number 4 - it's a tassel from this vassal (no hassle).

I seem to remember that this word has something to do with professors dressed in their silly ceremonial robes, therefore (and I am in great company with this guess!) 4.

were sufficiently distinct from each other and the real answer seems to dismiss all the shipboard answers from the starting gun, does it not?

I have come across an expression liripiping (sp?) in connection with clothing, so will go with the herd on 4 - how many times has everyone LIU?!

or maybe two shipboard answers are wrong and one is right... or perhaps we should dismiss tasseled answers... or possibly the poop decks are wrong and nincompoop is right! oooh, my head hurts.

It's about time this board had a demonstration of true fourtitude!
