Does anyone know where the phrase 'big fish in a little pond' comes from? I'm having a really hard time finding out.
If you don't know, do you know someone who might know?
Cheers,
Kelly

WAY back in high school I recall reading an assigned essay which was all about choosing whether to be a big fish in a small pond or vice versa. It was an oldish essay even then (mid 1940s) Can't recall name or author. Any retired American Lit teachers around to help out?

Not at all. I wasn't implying that you, wow, were AnnaS, I was simply apologising to her for using her harrumph®
