Jackie Carpal Tunnel Registered: 03/15/00 Posts: 11580 Loc: Louisville, Kentucky	I have always heard this word pronounced buh-SALT. But today on the History Channel this guy who spoke like an American called it BASS-alt. How do you-all say it?

Tromboniator addict Registered: 05/10/10 Posts: 691 Loc: Alaska	In the context of my study of geology and my conversations with geologists (mostly US) over several decades, the pronunciation there seems to be buh-SALT. In the population at large (US), I have on rare occasions heard the pronunciation BAY-salt.
