Has anyone noticed the explosion of members in the last week? I believe over 50? Maybe we just picked up a classroom full, or an orchestra, or a football team, or the U.S.Senate (yikes)?

I have noticed a few extra, but haven't counted. But new participants with new ideas should be enthusiastically welcomed. I haven't checked their profiles, but have wondered how many of them are former members coming back. In any event,my motto is the more the merrier. wwh

Well, I'm a new member to the board and I really love it! It's so refreshing after trying for such a long time to find a relatively intelligent place to share comments, information... just have some fun with people of like minds... or at least that speak the same language... sort of!

I've been on the e-mail list for AWAD for awhile now, but only this week decided to check out the board. I guess it's the dearth of tourists here and the ongoing depression that has driven me to spend way tooooo many hours online - searching for someone out there with which to talk!

Anyway - I'm enjoying it - and meeting some new friends from so many interesting places and backgrounds!

Hooray, Avy, Sweet Musick, Rapunzel, and--I can't remember, but I know there's at least one other, and I'm sorry--for your recent "promotions".

Welcome to all the new arrivals, and an especial welcome to you, Shoshannah, since you have been searching for so long.

I'm fairly to the board. Thanks to everyone for making my life is more interesting since another member got me hooked on this board. Special thanks to that person. Maybe another of our new strangers is someone I told about the sight, you just have to pass it on.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm already having a great time, except that I have lost all track of time, don't know where I am or where I'm going... totally HOOKED on this thing... don't know what I will do when I actually and finally find a paying job and have to leave the computer for hours at a time! Oh, maybe I'll have one wherever I work and can... no, I'd better not even think about that.....

Shoshannah

I'm guessing this was due to the introduction to this week's theme. Anu told everyone to visit AWADtalk and discuss English as a Global Language.

We've had a couple of extremely suspicious-looking cruise ships in port lately, full to the brim with wealthy but very ancient proto-mariners. Maybe it's them!

That would mean only half the US Senate signed up (wondering if it was the Democrats or the Republicans?)

Nix on letting half of the Senate in here. It would then be inquorate all the time, and the Nation's legislative needs would be neglected.

I guess that would not be necessarily true, but it was an excuse to use a recent Today's Word.

You could have all of the Labour government in New Zealand with the exception of the Prime Minister, Nanny - er, sorry, I mean HELEN Clark. The rest of them don't get to do very much and being on the Board might keep them from being too bored ...

Interesting. While she may be from the party that gave us the Nanny state, she seems to me to talk less like a nanny than Jenny. Isn't it intriguing how, with a few rare exceptions like Simon Upton, the varying degrees of sinistrality in NZ politics seem to score the sharpest minds? I'm sure Geoffrey Palmer and Al Gore would get on famously, without having to worry about personalities getting in the way.

Yes, AnnaS, I had to read it a couple of times - But ti comes clear if you realise that Being CJ cites the sight in order to incite his friends to visit the site.

Sorry for the confusion. Sometimes I type to fast ,leave words out & my spelling sucks. I'll keep trying, it's ok to correct me I won't get offended.

Yes I mean this website.
The missing word at the beginning was fairly.
The last phrase should have been a sentence saying, this is so much fun you just have to pass it on.

My favorite english teacher is the person I introduced to awad. We are both administrators here, he still teaches his writing class & holds his students accountable for both mechanics of the english language, and the subject matter of the assignments.

I still can't get over the incongruity of joining the board yet not becoming a member until much much later...

Well, Marianna, I suspect we're just about to pick up a whole slew of newcomers again. after Anu's invitation today; so if we made you AWW (Assistant Welcome Wagon) you would have a good excuse to post about 100 or so by this time next week, and our newcomers would be given an awe-inspiring welcome

Thanks for your suggestions, Bill and Maverick, but I am really in no hurry... The journey is so rewarding I wouldn't want to rush it for anything at all...

I just found out about this when the board was mentioned in an AWAD daily the week before last. And it's terrific here -- I'm spending ridiculous amounts of time here just basking in the conversations. And thinking up stuff to ask about.

Marianna,
That's a lovely way to put it. Indeed, this is the best online place I've ever dallied in.
